Pet memorial portraits can be made from any photo you love: upload a picture of your dog, cat or other pet, choose the Memorial theme and a style such as Watercolor, and the AI paints them with soft light, gentle wings and a rainbow. Add their name and years. The first preview is free.
How to create a memorial portrait
- 1
Choose a photo you love
It does not need to be perfect. An old phone picture, a scan of a printed photo or a screenshot from a video all work, as long as you can see their face.
- 2
Pick Memorial and a style
The Memorial theme adds soft clouds, a faint halo, small wings and a rainbow. Watercolor is the gentlest choice; Oil Painting feels more formal. Choose Portrait if you want them just as they were.
- 3
Add their name and keep it
Type their name and years for the gold plate, for example 'MAX 2012–2026'. Preview it in a frame, then download the HD file. It stays in your account until you delete it.

Made with care
Still unmistakably them
We ask the painter to keep the exact face, eye color, markings and coat. A grey muzzle stays grey. A torn ear stays torn. Those details are what you will look for.
A gentle Memorial theme
Soft clouds, warm light, small angel wings, a faint halo and a rainbow in the distance. Nothing loud. You can also skip the theme for a plain portrait.
Older photos are fine
Many people only have a few photos, often blurry or taken years ago. The AI repaints the image, so grain and low light matter much less than in a print of the original.
Name and dates on a plate
The gold plate holds up to 24 characters: enough for a name and years, like 'BELLA 2009–2024', or a short line such as 'GOOD GIRL FOREVER'.
No waiting weeks
Hand-painted memorials can take a month or more. Here you see the portrait in about 30 seconds, at a time when you may want something to hold on to now.
Your photo is deleted in 24 hours
The uploaded photo is removed automatically within a day. The finished portrait stays in My Portraits for as long as you want it.
What pet memorial portraits are for
Pet memorial portraits give you one calm picture to come back to. Phone galleries are full of half-blurry shots, and scrolling through them can be hard in the first weeks. A single portrait, framed on a shelf or set as a lock screen, holds the memory in one place. Many people also make one for a family member, a friend or a child who is grieving the same pet.
These are digital portraits made by AI, not hand-painted canvases. We say that plainly because it matters here. What you get is a gentle, faithful likeness quickly, at a low cost, and a file you can print at any photo shop.
Choosing a photo for a pet memorial portrait
When a pet has passed, you work with the photos you have. That is fine. A few things help the AI keep the likeness:
- Choose the photo where their eyes are clearest, even if the rest is soft. Eyes carry the expression.
- A side angle is fine if it is how you remember them. The portrait follows the pose in the photo.
- Old printed photos: photograph them flat in daylight, without flash, to avoid glare.
- If their collar was part of who they were, use a photo where it shows. The painter keeps visible details like a collar or a tag.
- If one photo misses something, try a second photo. Each try is a fresh painting.
Watercolor, oil or plain: picking a pet memorial painting style
Watercolor is the most common choice for a pet memorial painting, and for pet memorial portraits in general. Soft washes on white paper feel light and calm, and they suit both bright and pale coats. Our watercolor pet portraits page shows more of that style without the memorial touches.
Oil Painting gives a richer, more formal dog memorial painting with warm light on a dark background. It looks right in a heavy gold frame next to family photos, much like a classic pet portrait painting. Line Art is the quietest option, a simple pet drawing outline that many people use as a tattoo sketch. And if wings and a rainbow are not for you, choose Portrait as the theme: you get your pet as they were, in the style you picked, with nothing added.
Rainbow bridge and other memorial art ideas
The rainbow in the Memorial theme is a nod to the Rainbow Bridge, the poem many pet owners find comfort in. Some people like that image; others prefer something plainer. A few pet memorial art ideas people tell us they made:
- A framed 8 × 8 inch print with name and years on the plate, placed next to their collar or ashes.
- A small print for each family member, so everyone has their own copy.
- A sympathy gift for a friend, made from a photo they posted.
- A phone or desktop wallpaper, so you see them every day.
- A memorial page in a photo book, with the portrait on the cover.
Memorial pet portraits for two pets or with you

With Pet & Owner, you can stand beside them one more time. These cost 60 credits. Read pet and owner portraits for how to choose those photos.
What a pet memorial portrait costs

A framed keepsake
Print the 2048 px file up to about 8 × 8 inches at any photo lab and frame it with their name and years.
A sympathy gift
Pet memorial portraits are a thoughtful gift. Make one for a friend who just lost their dog or cat. It is a kind way to say you remember them too.
