Pet and owner portraits are made from one photo of you together, or one photo of you and one of your pet: upload them, pick a style like Royal, Oil Painting or Cartoon, and the AI paints you side by side. Switch to Multiple Pets to put up to four pets in one frame.

Why shared portraits work here
Separate photos, one painting
Your dog will not sit still next to your cat, and that is fine. Upload one photo of each and the AI places them in the same scene with matching light.
You can be in it too
Pet & Owner puts a person next to the pet. Use a photo of you together, or two separate photos if you never got the shot.
Up to four pets
Two dogs, a dog and a cat, a cat and a rabbit, or the whole household. One photo per pet keeps each face accurate.
Royal costumes for everyone
In Royal or Renaissance style, pick King, Queen, Duke, Duchess, Admiral, General, Knight or Princess. Everyone in the frame gets dressed for court.
Same free first preview
Your first portrait on a device is free in any mode, including these two. No sign-up needed to see it.
Names on the plate
The gold plate takes up to 24 characters, so 'MILO & LUNA' or 'THE MILLERS' fits fine.
Pet and owner portraits: what to expect
Pet and owner portraits treat the two of you a little differently, and it is better to know that before you start. Your pet stays very close to the photo: face shape, eye color, markings, coat. You get restyled more. The AI keeps your face and its main features, but you may come out slightly painted or stylized, the way a person looks in an old oil portrait rather than a photo. Outfits, hair and the background change to match the style you chose.
Most people like that. A Royal portrait is not supposed to look like a selfie. If you need a close photographic likeness of a person, a human portrait artist is still the safer choice. For a fun, flattering portrait of you and your dog, this works well.
Photo tips for dog and owner portraits
Dog and owner portraits come out best when both faces are clear. A few tips for the people in the picture:
- Face the camera with even light. Window light from the side is better than overhead light that casts shadows under the eyes.
- Take off sunglasses and hats unless you want them painted in.
- Choose a photo from the shoulders up. Full-body shots leave the face small, and small faces get stylized more.
- If you take separate photos, try to match the light: both indoors or both outside.
- For your pet, the usual rules apply: sharp eyes, ears in frame, no heavy shadow on the face.
2 pet portraits and multiple pet portraits
A two pet portrait is the most popular kind of multiple pet portrait: two dogs, or a dog and a cat who are best friends. Switch the tool to Multiple Pets and upload one photo of each pet. You can add up to four. If you already have one good photo with every pet in it, you can upload just that one instead.
Separate photos almost always give better likeness than a group shot, because each face fills its own frame. Do not worry about matching sizes or poses. The painter arranges them side by side and sizes a Great Dane and a Chihuahua sensibly. For mixed species, see our cat portrait and animal portraits pages for tips on photographing cats, rabbits and birds.
Family and pet portraits, couples and kids
Family and pet portraits are where people get creative. Pet & Owner works with one person and the pet. For a couple and pet portrait or a bigger family dog portrait, upload one photo that already has everyone in it: the couple on the couch with the dog, the kids in the yard with the cat. Group photos with several people are harder, so keep the group small and the faces large in the frame.
For pet family portraits with no people, Multiple Pets is the easier route. Many owners also make a portrait of each pet separately, then frame them as a set. See custom dog portraits for single-dog ideas.
Choosing a style for portraits with people
Royal is the crowd favorite: you as King or Duchess, your dog in a matching cape. It flatters people because classic portrait painting is soft on skin. Our renaissance pet portraits page has more on the eight costumes. Oil Painting gives a formal, gallery feel with no costume. Cartoon is great for kids and for funny pet and owner portraits, and it hides any mismatch between two photos. Pop Art is bold and works for couples who want something modern. For more silly ideas, see funny pet portraits.
What custom pet and owner portraits cost
An artist-painted portrait with a person and a pet often costs more than a pet alone, since people take longer to paint. Online shops typically charge about $15 to $40 for a digital file and $60 to $170 for canvas. Here a Pet & Owner or Multiple Pets portrait is 60 credits, compared with 40 for a single pet. The 450-credit pack at $9.99 covers seven shared portraits. Credits never expire. See pricing.
